Updated for 2020: Project Management and the RIBA Plan of Work



Anyone working in construction based Project Management in the UK will have heard of the RIBA Plan of Work. RIBA is the Royal Institute of British Architects and over the years they have developed an invaluable set of guidelines which organises the process of managing and designing building projects and administering building contracts.

The Plan of Work breaks down the processes required into a set of simple and easy to understand workstages from Stage 1 (Brief) to Stage 7 (Post Practical Completion).

Nearly all projects in the UK are developed using this set of guidelines and for the Project Manager they are an excellent management tool (if used in conjunction with a range of other process and techniques).
